Does Overweight affect pregnancy?

During pregnancy and breast feeding body needs more vitamins minerals and other nutrients, because, during this period your body works hard. However, overweight is also not good for your health, which affects many aspects of your life. Overweight may put you at risk of health problems, or can affect on fertility or pregnancy. Overweight may affect the ovulation and regular month cycle, which makes difficulties to ovulate. Because of overweight the estrogen increases, which imbalance the hormones that directly affects the ovulation. Overweight is also responsible for the risk of miscarriage, preeclmpsia, blood pressure, hypertension and diabetes during pregnancy.

Don't skip meals, when you are pregnant. Healthy diet, during pregnancy is very important for good health. Your baby grows day-today and needs all nutrition in right proportion. Your baby will suffer by hunger or starve if you are on dieting. The problems can arise, if your diet is not perfect or not enough during pregnancy. However, you also make sure that your body is not gaining too much weight. It's common to gain weight between 10 to 15kg, during pregnancy. If you are eating less than 600 calories a day, during your pregnancy for the first six months, will cause to overweight. However, if you ate less than 600 calories a day for last three months a risk of overweight will not occur.

The organ, hypothalamus is the main cause for this which controls the desire of food, during first six months in pregnancy. Less food cans force the hypothalamus to get excessive compensation to hunger which leads to overweight. Risk of complications may increase for the woman having overweight during pregnancy. Woman having weight about 20% extra, than her actual weight can give complications such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. Overweight may increase problem of having a baby that is larger than normal. Overweight may also causes to cesarean section birth, which is opposite to a vaginal birth. Over weight during pregnancy may create problem to loose weight after pregnancy. Because of extra body fat, there may be problem for ultrasound. Overweight during pregnancy is risky and may cause various infections including urinary infections.

Child's weight depends on Mother's weight, before pregnancy. If mother is having overweight, the chances of overweight increases for child at very young age that is at 2 to 3 years. Smoking is not good during pregnancy because, the child may be at risk of becoming overweight through the early years or through adulthood also. The research says that the weight of child also depends on the age of mother when she gave birth, the child's gender and the mother was married or unmarried. There is risk of preeclampsia which destroys work of kidney. It stops the supply of nutritive material to baby through placenta, when kidney breaks and albumen goes in urine and edemas.

However, gaining weight is an indication of the health during pregnancy, which is good for growth of baby. With the help of your pregnancy weight and body mass index (BMI), you can measure the weight which you need to gain. The period of pregnancy is not a dieting period. You have to take balanced diet, which gives the complete nutrition to you and your baby.
